Verizon Customers' Support Helps Readers Get Creative During Summer Reading
At the Free Library of Philadelphia's 53 branches June 15 - August 14, 2009
Verizon joined with Wachovia, A Wells Fargo Company, as title co-sponsor of the Free Library of Philadelphia's "Be Creative @ Your Library" Summer Reading program. This program encourages students to maintain and improve reading levels over the summer months in the library's safe, productive and structured locations. One of its new media sponsors this year, Telemundo, adds bi-lingual outreach to 11 branches in the region with a large Spanish-speaking population, in addition to Radio-One Philadelphia.
The kickoff, held on June 3, included craft stations and storytelling with third grade students from Bache-Martin Elementary School in Philadelphia, and a surprise appearance by the Phillie Phanatic. Also joining in the activites for the day were: Doug Smith, Director of External Affairs, Verizon Pennsylvania, along with Michele Lawrence from Wachovia, A Wells Fargo Company, and the president of the Free Library of Philadelphia, Siobhan Reardon
