Temple Terrace Data Center hosts Volunteer Awareness Day
The Tampa ISOP 2012 class held a Volunteer Awareness Day to educate employees on some of the volunteering opportunities in Tampa Bay and to help organizations connect to volunteers.
Many of us would like to volunteer our time or other resources to help the community and others in need. For some of us, though, it is difficult to know where to start. In an effort to both educate employees on some of the volunteering opportunities in Tampa Bay and to help organizations connect to volunteers, Tampa ISOP 2012 class held a Volunteer Awareness Day on August 8th 2012 in the Temple Terrace Data Center.
Fourteen nonprofit organizations from around the Tampa Bay Area graced the event, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, Computer Mentors and Special Olympics. Over 20 ISOP members, over three quarters of the group, took turns assisting the visiting organizations at their booths.
Organizations even connected with one another to see if there were opportunities to help each other! One of the benefactors, Computer Mentors will be donating time to help Special Olympics of Hillsborough County with their website and will look into volunteering with them too.
The day was a great way to learn about the volunteer opportunities available in the area, a great team-building exercise, a networking opportunity for the nonprofits to meet each other and a great success as there were over 375 total visitations at the booths.
