IT’s Shannon Thompson Volunteers to Help Find Loving Homes for Rescue Dogs

When Shannon Thompson isn’t working as a quality assurance manager in Consumer & Mass Business IT, she volunteers to help women, children and … yes, don’t forget man’s best friend.  Since 2006, Shannon has been a foster “mom” to 39 Schnauzers.

Her quest to find homes for rescue dogs began one afternoon when she found a stray female schnauzer. At first, she was unable to reunite it with its owner, which seemed like a mixed blessing because she had fallen madly in love with the pup she named Aili. By the time the dog’s owner was located, Aili and Shannon were inseparable, and the owner decided it was best to leave the dog with Shannon.

Although Shannon had never been around schnauzers before, she wanted to give Aili a schnauzer playmate. When she found the Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of North Texas (MSRNT) website (http://www.msrnt.com/), she was drawn to the appeal of being a foster volunteer.

The rescue dogs are never euthanized, and each dog spends an average of 30 days in foster care. So far, 1,034 Schnauzers have moved from foster care into loving homes because of MSRNT volunteers like Shannon, who was recently featured in the group’s newsletter.
Because Shannon volunteers at least 50 hours annually with MSRNT, the Verizon Foundation donates $750 to the organization.
